Career Pathways
Operate power construction equipment—like motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, pumps, derricks, shovels, tractors, and front-end loaders—to move earth, erect structures, and pour concrete (or other hard surface pavement). You may also repair and maintain equipment in addition to your other duties.
Operate equipment used to lay or repair road beds, parking lots, and airport runways. This career pathway includes concrete and asphalt paving machine operators, form tampers, tamping machine operators, and stone spreader operators.
Maintain highways, roads, airport runways, and rights-of-way. Duties include patching broken or eroded pavement and repairing guard rails, highway markers, and snow fences. You may also mow or clear brush from along roads or plow snow from roadways.
