THE POSITION

As an HVAC Refrigeration Technician with the Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services, you will play an important role in maintaining reliable heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration and HVAC systems within youth facilities. The role involves responding to service needs, monitoring equipment, and ensuring safe and effective system performance. As an HVAC Refrigeration Technician, you will perform the following duties:
• System Maintenance: Install, repair, and maintain refrigeration and HVAC units, equipment, and related devices
• Emergency Response: Resolve urgent issues by troubleshooting onsite and addressing immediate safety concerns
• Equipment Monitoring: Use automated systems to track temperatures, humidity, and system performance
• Supply Management: Request tools and materials needed to complete repairs and maintain inventory levels
• Refrigerant Handling: Recover and recycle refrigerants and service equipment in accordance with the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and guidelines
• Technical Inspection: Interpret diagrams, schematics, and instructions to support installation, repair, and redesign work
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may vary based on operational needs. In this role, you will be subject to emergency call-ins.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
• Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.
Special Requirements:
• You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within six months of employment.
• You must be in possession of an active motor vehicle license.
