DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role focuses on testing highway materials and supporting a clean, safe, and well managed laboratory. You work with standard methods to produce reliable data and maintain equipment and records. As a Highway Materials Lab Tester, you will perform the following duties:
• Materials Testing: Perform tests on coarse and fine aggregates, anti skid material, and cement materials following AASHTO, ASTM, and PTM methods to generate accurate data for review
• Quality Standards: Execute testing with precision to meet ISO quality objectives for AASHTO resource and CCRL proficiency samples
• Sample Preparation: Prepare and split aggregates for additional testing, transfers to Concrete or Chemistry sections, and petrographic analysis
• Equipment Care: Inspect, clean, and lubricate lab equipment on scheduled intervals and calibrate instruments to comply with AASHTO R 18 accreditation
• Record Keeping: Maintain calibration and maintenance logs and keep the work area clean and orderly
• Safety And Compliance: Follow safety training and protocols, report incidents, support succession planning, uphold the Green Plan Policy, and adhere to FLSA work hours
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
• One year of experience as a Technical Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• One year of experience in the testing of materials used in highway, bridge, building, hydraulic or similar construction projects and graduation from high school; or
• An Associate's Degree in a civil engineering technology or closely related field; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
