A DAY IN THE LIFE AS DIRECTOR OF THERAPEUTIC RECREATION / ACTIVITIES
As one of our Department Heads, our Director of Therapeutic Recreation manages and facilitates a team who provides daily activities that range from arts and crafts or music to pet therapy and literary activities or games. Our daily programming takes place on units as well as in our dedicated recreation room, as well as one-on-one visits with residents. Other activities offered by this department for resident enjoyment include horticulture, spiritual offerings, food preparation, card and board games, and physical activities. Our Director of Therapeutic Recreation is a positive force in the facility and participates in care plan meetings and is involved in MDS documentation as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR DIRECTOR OF THERAPEUTIC RECREATION
Current state certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist is preferred. If not certified, candidate must be qualified and willing to receive certification upon joining our team (qualification per state regulations can include 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, OT or COTA certification, or completion of a training course approved by the state).
