Lancaster County-Wide Communications, the 9-1-1 center for Lancaster County (PA), is accepting applications from those who desire a rewarding and exciting career in public safety dispatching at the 9-1-1 Center. Candidates must be customer-focused, be able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, be able to handle stressful situations calmly, and possess strong oral and written communication skills. Candidates must be minimum 18 years of age with a High School diploma, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates must be able to operate a computer keyboard and mouse, and be able to sit and wear a headset for long periods of time.
Applicants must pass a 25-wpm typing test and a skill-based test; consent to an extensive criminal background check, credit check, and drug screening. Newly hired employees for these positions shall be required to successfully complete a paid 160 hour training course. Positions start as part-time and become full-time (working 12-hour shifts), as positions become available. When the applicant becomes full-time they must be available to work any shift. Employees must be able to work weekends and holidays, as we are a 24-hour facility. A full benefits package is offered with full-time employment. The positions have a starting salary of $12.67 per hour with promotional and merit raises to follow. Additional pay for holidays, weekends, evening, and overnight work hours.
