Wednesday, January 15
Dear Parents & Guardians,
The safety of our students, indeed the safety of everyone at the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center, our sending districts, and the greater community, is our highest priority. As a result of that bedrock belief, the Lancaster County CTC collaborated with the West Earl Township Police Department and personnel at Garden Spot High School to address a report of a terroristic threat made by a student and directed toward classmates on Wednesday, January 8.
The Lancaster County CTC takes any such threats seriously and the West Earl Township Police Department were informed immediately. After investigation, the student was taken into police custody. The student has not and will not return to any Lancaster County CTC campus at this time.
Since that evening, the Lancaster County CTC has worked in conjunction with the police and partnering school districts to conduct a follow-up investigation and ensure the ongoing safety of our students, faculty, and staff. Given that the student was secured by police and that the authorities deemed that the situation was safe and stable, we chose to proceed with school as usual. Now that the police have completed their investigation, we are informing the public of the incident.
The Lancaster County CTC commends the students who reported the initial threats and who cooperated with the CTC, Garden Spot personnel, and police on the matter.
Dr. Stuart Savin
