I hope this communication finds you and your families healthy and safe. The administration team has been working very hard to complete our plans for bringing our students back to campus for the start of school. We are building our plan for reopening next month; however, time is marching through the summer and I wanted to share some important updates regarding the reopening of the LCCTC next month.
The LCCTC, in concert with your respective school district, offers a career-focused elective option in a high school students’ educational pathway. We do this through nearly 50 different program areas with wonderful hands-on educational experiences. As such, our ultimate goal is to have all of our students and staff on campus and in school for learning and activities as soon as it is safely possible. We continue to plan for that scenario as well as other less ideal situations if they are needed.
As we enter the school year and throughout the pandemic, the LCCTC needs your help with monitoring your child’s health and potential exposure to ensure the least amount of risk for our students and staff. It is important that you do not send your child to school if they present any symptoms of infection. We consider this issue so crucial to the success of the reopening that we have incorporated it into the LCCTC’s Reopening Plan.
The Reopening Plan itself is a living document that will change to meet the evolving needs of the community and guidelines from agencies like the Centers for Disease Control. The Plan states the type of reopening the LCCTC intends to adopt, how to handle cleaning/sanitizing, how to maintain social distancing, how to monitor the welfare of students and staff, the required use of face masks and shields, and more.
The LCCTC has developed a webpage dedicated to the most current information on the Reopening Plan. You can view the plan itself on the page as well as see community survey results, view our developing list of Frequently Asked Questions, and, most importantly, send us your feedback on the plan. We still await some further guidance from the Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Health specific to schools on contact tracing, quarantine, and isolation after suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, and classroom or school closure as a result of a confirmed case. Updates on these topics will be shared on the Reopening webpage.
We encourage you to review the plan in its entirety and send your questions and concerns to us via the Reopening Plan Comment Form on the webpage. We will be collecting community feedback throughout the summer and into the school year; however, any feedback received by Wednesday, July 29, will be shared with the JOC prior to the meeting to adopt the Reopening Plan. We will compile your feedback questions and comments throughout the summer and incorporate them into the Reopening Plan Frequently Asked Questions webpage.
Our fundamental concern is reopening for classes in the most effective way while prioritizing the safety and welfare of our students, staff, and community. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we developed this preliminary reopening plan. Please review the plan and send us your comments.
