The Lancaster County Career & Technology Center recognizes that information on the current status of educational institutions is changing, sometimes by the hour, and reliable information can be difficult to obtain.  The LCCTC will post our most current and relevant updates on the CTC website at www.lancasterctc.edu/news .  When necessary, extremely urgent news will be sent to students and families via our automated calling system.

Please see the current information and updates for the Lancaster County CTC below.

Current Shutdown

We are awaiting word from the PA Department of Education or the governor regarding how schooling will proceed following the two-week shutdown that has already been enacted.  We will share that information as soon as we receive it.

Adult Programs – During the past week, the LCCTC administration has worked toward adopting virtual instruction for some adult programming such as Practical Nursing, Dental Hygiene, and Veterinary Technician.  At this time all other adult programming is currently suspended until further directions comes from the state.

High School Programs – The LCCTC is considering our options; but much of the instruction offered at a career and technology center is unique within education.  We get our hands dirty.  We teach how to repair powerful engines, make delicate pastries, nurture young minds, and build comfortable homes.

The LCCTC has already reached out to the PA Career and Technical Administrators Association (PACTA) on the topic of virtual instruction.  They will be discussing recommendations and possible ways to collaborate across CTC’s early next week.  Additionally, CTCs must follow state and federal regulations relating to fair and appropriate education for all students.  Until we receive updated instructions from the state and federal Departments of Education, we are not yet actively developing virtual options for our high school programming.  However, the LCCTC is currently investigating educational options that could be developed.”

PSSA & Standardized Testing

The state has cancelled PSSA, Keystone, and PASA standardized examinations for the 19-20 school year.  We are attempting to discover if NOCTI and NIMS testing is included in that cancellation.  We will post that information when we receive it.

Lunches/Meals for Students

Daily meals for students are being offered at sending districts throughout the county.  Please refer to your sending district for details on where, when, and how to get a meal.

Comcast Offering Free Wi-Fi Hotspots

It is our understanding that Comcast is providing free Xfinity WiFi hotspots to the public, including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. Please visit www.xfinity.com/wifi to access a regional map of available hotspots.  These hotspots are physical locations where, once present, a user can access the Internet for free via a Wi-Fi network.

When you are within a hotspot, select “xfinitywifi” form the list of available Wi-Fi networks and launch a browser. You may need to approve access to the network on your browser.

Coronavirus Rumor Control

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has created a webpage to specifically address rumors and misinformation regarding the COVID-19 outbreak.  This may be a convenient resource to address questions about rumors about the Coronavirus and the federal response to the situation.  https://www.fema.gov/coronavirus-rumor-control

The Future

We recognize that this is uncharted territory for everyone.  We are all feeling stress and anxiety inherent with an uncertainty about the future.  We will get there.  It will take some time, some effort, and some sacrifice, but we will get through the anxiety and uncertainty.

Thank you for your support and patience!  Please reach out to us if you need help.  Be safe.
