The governor’s extension of the public school shutdown this week has changed the parameters of online education going forward.  With guidance from the state Department of Education for our high school programming, the Lancaster County CTC is shifting from enrichment and review to previewing new content through planned instruction.  This shift will take place during the week of April 13.

As a result of this shift, the LCCTC wants to extend, one last time, the opportunity to borrow a computer.  This opportunity is for all students who may need a computer in order to access the internet.  No registration is necessary.  Any LCCTC student or family who needs a computer can pick one up.  The CTC will confirm the identity of the student and record the people and vehicles picking up the electronics.

The last day to pick up a Chromebook will be Monday, April 6, from 1 to 6 pm.  Pick up sites will be at the bus docks at the Willow Street, Brownstown, and Mount Joy campuses.  If you need a Chromebook and have not already arranged to get one, please come to the distribution on Monday.  You can go to whichever campus is most convenient.

Again, this will be the last open opportunity to obtain a computer from the LCCTC.  Given the rapid progression of the Coronavirus outbreak in the state and the potential severity of the COVID-19 infection, we are limiting any interaction between students, faculty, and staff to the greatest extent possible.  Because of that concern for everyone’s safety, we will provide this one last open opportunity for students and families to pick up a Chromebook to use for the upcoming planned instruction.

Students who are experiencing technical issues connecting to the Canvas learning system or other difficulties can go to the LCCTC student online portal – https://lancasterctc.edu/student-support-page/ for technical assistance.  Also, there are offers from local internet providers to access hot spots for free or for reduced cost internet access.  Comcast/Xfinity is opening wifi hotspots to all users and also has other online options.  Go to https://corporate.comcast.com/covid-19 for more information.
