The Lancaster County Career & Technology Center received notice today that one of our students has been diagnosed with a confirmed case of Covid-19. The LCCTC has activated the protocols from our Health and Safety Plan to respond to the situation. We hope that the ill student recovers soon and can return to school without difficulty.
The infected student and their family informed the LCCTC of a confirmed diagnosis this morning. The student and those deemed to have been in close contact are now under quarantine for 14 days. The LCCTC is in the process of collecting information to send to the PA Department of Health (DOH). Affected families and school districts will be contacted directly. Classrooms and common areas where the student spent time will receive deep cleaning and disinfecting.
Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the PA Department of Health state that the appropriate response to a single confirmed Covid-19 diagnosis is deep cleaning and disinfecting of affected areas. No further action is necessary unless the situation changes. Should that occur, we will inform the community as soon as possible.
The LCCTC and its 16 county school district partners all have Health and Safety Plans in place to address instances of Covid-19 in our schools. Our Plan’s countermeasures to viral outbreaks include quarantine, deep cleaning, and contact tracing. These protocols are meant to slow the emergence of infection and mitigate its spread.
As the weather gets colder and we enter influenza season, self-evaluation and reporting of symptoms will become even more vital to the fight against the pandemic. The quicker the response to a confirmed infection, the better the outcome for the community. Daily self-evaluation and a prompt notification from students and families about the presence of any possible symptoms is critical to the containment of the outbreak.
Again, we hope that our student can return to class soon and safely. Thank you for your continued cooperation with the daily self-evaluations.
